"What is urgent is the evangelization of a world that not only does not know the basic aspects of Christian dogma, but in great part has lost even the memory of the cultural elements of Christianity."

                            Pope John Paul II

Memorial of St. Lucy, Virgin and Martyr

"Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things."

                                                                               St. Matthew 21.27

a Mole ... or a Man?

Of Men and Moles

Saint Lucy is the Patron St. of the blind.

She is, therefore, pre-eminently the Patron St. for modern man.

Blind to God's love, goodness, mercy, generosity – and purblind to His justice; blind alike to Heaven and Hell, to sin and sanctity, good and evil, truth and mendacity – and blind to his blindness, man is a mole.

What is more, each is without ears, so even if told of the Light, they will hear as much as they see.

What, then, is the difference?

The mole is without sin  – and does not choose the darkness from which it cannot escape. And the mole, without ears, can nevertheless hear, while the man, with ears, can choose to be deaf ... even as he chooses to be blind.

No doubt you will ask me, "by what authority do I tell you this ... that modern man is a mole?"

But I will first ask you, "By what authority do you question it?"
