Song from a Cloistered Nun to her father

Dear Editor,
I
would like to share something with you — something that is very, very
special to me. I think that it will be special to you, too, if you are
a father (you write so much on the beauty of fatherhood). My youngest
daughter has taken her Solemn and Perpetual Vows in a papally enclosed
monastery of cloistered nuns. She is a young woman, but is still my
"Little One" — the child, as it were, of my old age. She is so very
happy as a nun and has grown in so many ways ... She is now the Bride
of Christ, but ever had cleaved to her father. It is such a beautiful
pain in my heart that she is now so far from home ... but one with her
Beloved. Shortly after making her final profession she recorded this
song for me and sent it to me. Any father does not need to know the
language in which she sings it — it's words are clear to every father
who has given his daughter to Christ — or to any father who is separated
from his daughter, but not her love.
It is too beautiful to keep for myself alone, and I want to share it
with every father — that they may know that they are never forgotten,
never unloved ... no matter where their own Little One is. My tears
are my own, both of happiness and sorrow. I will be with my daughter
again ... one day ... and so will every father who knows the pain of
separation from his beloved daughter.
Ama
P.
