"The Eucharist, Light and Life of the New Millennium"

__________________________________________________

Mane nobiscum, Domine!
Stay with us!
"Let everyone do all
that is in their power to ensure that the Most Holy Sacrament of the
Eucharist will be protected from any and every irreverence or
distortion and that all abuses be thoroughly corrected. This is a
most serious duty incumbent upon each and every one, and all are
bound to carry it out
without
any
favoritism."

Meditations on Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the
Altar
|
"In this Year of the
Eucharist, the Christian community is invited to become more
aware of it through a more deeply felt celebration, prolonged and
fervent adoration ... in the footsteps of Mary, "woman of the
Eucharist", the Christian community lives this mystery! Strengthened by
the "Bread of eternal life", it becomes a presence of light and life, a
leaven of evangelization ..."
ADDRESS OF POPE JOHN PAUL II
Altar of the Confessio of the Vatican Basilica

O
sublime
humility!
O humble sublimity!
That the Lord of the Universe,
God and the Son of God,
so humbles himself
for our salvation
that he hides himself under
the little form of bread!
Look, brothers,
at the humility of God
and pour out your hearts before Him!
Saint Francis of Assisi

The sweetness of
this sacrament none can tell.
There comfort is drawn from the well-head of the spirit;
there is found the memorial of Christ's exceeding love
for us in his sufferings.
Saint Thomas Aquinas

The Eucharistic a medicine of immortality,
an antidote to death.
Saint Ignatius of Antioch

If only the
bread and wine is changed
and nothing happens in us,
is that not a contradiction of the Eucharist ?

And
God said to me:
Dearest Daughter,
contemplate
the marvellous state
of the soul who receives
the bread of life,
this food of angels,
as she ought.
When she receives
this sacrament
she lives in me and I in her.
Just as the fish is in the sea
and the sea in the fish,
so am I in the soul
and the soul in me,
the sea of peace.
Saint Catherine of Sienna

Christ
is there in the Eucharist,
sacrificed, to bring peace
to the things of heaven
and earth,
to reconcile you,
with the God of the Universe
and make you his friend...
What the Son of God
has done in this way,
you must do
as far as
your human strength allows,
by being a builder of peace
both for yourself
and for others.
Saint John Chrysostom

How
great was the
charity
of Jesus Christ
in choosing
for the institution
of the Eucharist
the eve of the day he was to be put to death!
Men are weaving
the blackest plots against him,
and he is only occupied
in giving them
the most precious gift he has.
Saint John Vianney

Jesus
told me how much
He desires to come to human hearts.
"Know, that when I come
to a human heart in Holy Communion,
My hands are full of all sorts of graces
which I want to give
to the soul...
How sad I am that souls
do not recognize Love !
They treat me as something dead.
Saint Faustina

Christ
says, "I wished to become your
brother.
When for your sake
I had assumed flesh and blood.
I gave back again to you
that very flesh and blood
through which
I had become
your kinsman".
Saint John Chrysostom

My
Heart is drawn there where my God is hidden,
Where he dwells with us day and night,
Clothed in the White Host;
He governs the whole world, He communes with souls.
My Heart is drawn there where my God is hiding.
Where his love is immolated,
But my heart senses that the living water is here;
It is my living God, though a veil hides Him.
Saint Faustina.

When
Jesus says,
"I give you my Body",
it is a sign
that He is living in us,
that He is a lover....
His words are the words
of someone who thirsts
to live in people
and to carry people in him...
He came not as a miracle worker,
but as a lover,
as the friend
who saves and calls us forth to the Father ...
Jean Vanier

The
Eucharist is not only the end but the continuation of the
incarnation
and passion of Our Saviour.
Under the form of the Sacrament, Jesus continues the poverty
of his birth, the obedience of Nazareth,
the humility of His life,
the humiliation of His Passion,
His state of victim on the Cross.
Saint Peter Julian Emyard

He is the bread of life.
Whoever eats life
cannot die....
Go to Him and take your fill,
for He is the bread of life.
Go to Him and drink,
for He is the spring.
Go to Him and be enlightened,
for he is the light.
Go to Him and become free,
for where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom...
' I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me shall not hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst'(John 6.35)
Saint Ambrose

"I've been receiving communion every day for years,"
you told me.
" Anybody else would have been a saint
by now--
and I'm still the same!"
" My child, " I replied,
"keep up your daily communion,
and think:
What would I be if I hadn't received?"
Saint Josemaria Escriva

Thy Hand holds up the world and the universe
rests in thy love.
Thy life-giving Body
is at the heart of the Church;
thy sacred blood
protects the Bride.
Cyrillonas
(late 4th century)

I
am a host in your hand,
O Jesus my Creator and Lord,
Silent, hidden, without beauty or charm,
Because all the beauty of my soul is imprinted within me.
I am a host in your hand, O Divine Priest,
Do with me as you please;
I am totally dependant on your will, O Lord.
Because it is the delight and adornment of my soul.
I am a white host in your hand, O god.
I implore you, transform me into yourself.
May I be wholly hidden in you,
Locked in your merciful heart as in heaven.
I am a host in your hand, O Eternal priest,
May the wafer of my body hide me from human eye;
May your eyes alone measure my love and devotion,
Because my heart is always united to your divine heart.
I am a sacrificial host in your hand, O Divine mediator,
And I burn on the altar of holocaust,
Crushed and ground by suffering like grains of wheat,
And all for the sake of your glory, for the salvation of souls.
I am a host abiding in the tabernacle of your heart, I go through life
drowned in your love,
And I fear nothing in the world,
For you yourself are my shield, my strength and my defence.
I am a host laid on the altar of your heart,
to burn forever with the fire of love,
For I know that you have lifted me up solely because of your mercy,
And so I turn all these gifts and graces to your glory.
I am a host in your hand, O judge and saviour,
In the last hour of my life,
May the omnipotence of your grace lead me to my goal,
May your compassion on the vessel of mercy become famous
Saint Faustina

Put
your sins in the Chalice
for the Precious Blood to wash away.
One drop is capable
of washing away the sins of the world.
The Eucharist is connected with the Passion.
If Jesus had not established the Eucharist, we would have forgotten the
crucifixion.
It would have faded into the past
and we would have forgotten that Jesus loved us.
To make sure that we do not forget,
Jesus gave us the Eucharist as a memorial
of His love.
Mother Teresa
